Depression
Adult: 12.5 mg tid.
Elderly: Dose reduction to total daily dose of 25 mg.

Oral

Renal Impairment
Reduce total daily dose to 25 mg/day.

Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach. Take before main meals.

Contraindications
Childn <15 yrs. Pregnancy and lactation.

Special Precautions
General anaesthesia; tasks requiring mental alertness. Avoid abrupt withdrawal, dosage to be decreased gradually over 7-14 days.

Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, fatigue, nausea, constipation, lack of appetite, insomnia, drowsiness, palpitations, muscular or joint pain, headache, vertigo, tremour, dry mouth, hepatitis (rare)

Overdosage
Gastric lavage followed by symptomatic treatment and monitoring of CV, respiratory, metabolic and renal function.

Drug Interactions
Potentially Fatal: Avoid concurrent admin with MAOI, start tianeptine 2 wk after discontinuation from MAOI.

Food Interaction
Decreased absorption with alcohol.
|
Action
Description: Tianeptine exerts its antidepressant action by increasing the presynaptic re-uptake of serotonin.
