Why do I need this medicine?

Ascorbic Acid is a dietary supplement.

Ascorbic Acid is a synthetic Vitamin C and is used to prevent and treat scurvy and other Vitamin C deficiency states.

How do I use this medicine?

Ascorbic Acid injection is to be given either intramuscularly (into the buttock muscles) or subcutaneously (into the fatty layer under the skin, usually in the abdomen or thighs).

The doctor or nurse will administer the injection for you.

Your doctor will advise you about how often you need this injection.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

Ensure that you keep all appointments with your doctor so that you do not miss any doses.

If you miss an appointment or miss an injection, alert your doctor or nurse. A replacement appointment or injection should be given as soon as possible.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:

- diabetes
- kidney disease
- blood disorder
- an inherited condition called G6PD deficiency

If you are going for urine tests, inform your doctor that you are taking Ascorbic Acid as it can interfere with results of certain laboratory tests.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What side effects could I experience?

Vitamin C is generally safe when taken as prescribed.

This medicine may cause any of the following side effects: headache, faintness or dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, heartburn, stomach discomfort, flushing or redness of skin, mild soreness at the injection site and increased production of urine.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I use this with other medicines?

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:

- antacids (medicine to neutralise acid) containing aluminium salts
- dicoumarol (a blood-thinning medicine)

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in the refrigerator, between 2-8°C.Protect from light.

Keep away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
