Why do I need this medicine?

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic. It is used to treat superficial eye infections such as conjunctivitis (inflammation of the mucous membranes that covers the front of the eye) and corneal ulcers (a painful open sore on the cornea).

This medicine may also be used to treat other bacterial infections as decided by your doctor.

How do I use this medicine?

Instill Ciprofloxacin eye drop exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

How to use the eye drop suspension:
  1. Wash your hands with soap and water before using the eye drops.
  2. Invert the closed bottle and shake once before using.
  3. Tilt your head slightly backwards. With the index finger, pull the lower eyelid away from the eye to form a pouch. Look upwards and instill the required number of drops inside the lower eyelid.
  4. Close your eyes and do not blink for the next 30 seconds.
  5. Wipe any excess liquid from your face with a clean tissue.
  6. Replace and tighten the cap of the bottle.
Do not allow the tip of the dropper of this medicine to touch your eyes, eyelids or any other surfaces. Recap the eye drop immediately after use. If the eye drop becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in your eyes.

Do not share your eye drop with anyone else.

Do not use Ciprofloxacin for more than 2 weeks.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

Instill the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

When should I not use this medicine?

Do not use this medicine if you ever had an allergic reaction (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Ciprofloxacin and similar medicines such as moxifloxacin, levofloxacin, lomefloxacin, nalidixic acid, norfloxacin, and ofloxacin.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Do not wear contact lenses while you are being treated with this medicine.

What side effects could I experience?

Ciprofloxacin may cause dizziness, temporary blurring of vision or other visual disturbances. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert or need to see clearly.

Other side effects include any of the following: taste disturbances, white deposits on the eye surface, foreign body sensation in the eye and discomfort , redness, and itching of the eye.

If you develop rashes, breathlessness, swollen mouth or eyes, stop using the medicine and inform your doctor quickly. These could be signs of an allergic reaction.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I use this with other medicines?

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

How should I store this medicine?
