Why do I need this medicine?

Cromoglicic acid is used in the management of asthma.

This medicine helps relax the airways in your lungs. This will relieve chest tightness, wheezing and cough so that you can breathe more easily.

Cromoglicic acid may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.

How do I use this medicine?

Use Cromoglicic acid exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

This medicine is available as an inhaler or as a nebulising solution to be used with a machine called a nebuliser.

Make sure you know how to use the type of device or machine you have been given. If you have problems or do not understand the instructions, ask your doctor or pharmacist to show you how to use it.

Cromoglicic acid must be used regularly for it to be effective. Continue using this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop using it suddenly as this may worsen your condition.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

If you miss a dose of Cromoglicic acid, use the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and proceed with your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to use your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Avoid the solution or the mist of this medicine to be in contact with your eyes. If the solution or the mist gets into your eyes, flush it with clean water. If you experience any problems with your eyesight such as pain, discomfort, blurred or abnormal vision, alert your doctor immediately.

For as long as you are using Cromoglicic acid, you may need to have lung function tests regularly to check your body’s response to the medicine. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need to have these tests.

What side effects could I experience?

Cromoglicic acid may cause drowsiness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Other side effects may include any of the following: sore throat, cough, nausea, wheezing, sneezing, unpleasant taste and stomach pain.
