Why do I need this medicine?

Dapoxetine is used to treat sexual dysfunction such as uncontrolled ejaculation either before or shortly after a sexual activity.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Dapoxetine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take this medicine with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • heart disease e.g. heart failure, abnormal heart rhythm
  • mood disorder
  • history of severe depression
  • history of fainting
  • severe kidney disease
  • moderate to severe liver disease
as Dapoxetine may not be suitable for you.

Do not take this medicine if you are currently taking or have taken a medicine to treat depression known as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxacid, phenelzine and tranylcypromine in the last 14 days.

Do not take this medicine with medicines used to treat mood disorder, HIV infection, fungal infection, moderate to severe pain, certain antibiotics and herbal supplement. Please see the section “Can I take this with other medicines?” below for more information.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • epilepsy (fits or seizure)
  • increased pressure in the eye
  • bleeding disorder

What side effects could I experience?

Dapoxetine may cause dizziness, drowsiness or some problems with your eyesight. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert or need to see clearly.

Other side effects may include any of the following: headache, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, stomach pain, discomfort or swelling, indigestion, dry mouth, flushing, sweating, sleep disturbances, ringing in the ear, numbness or tingling sensation in the hands and feet, difficulty concentrating, feeling irritable, restlessness, and abnormal dreams.

Dapoxetine may make you feel dizzy when you get up from a sitting or lying down position. To minimise this problem, stand up slowly.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • fits or seizure
  • faint or feel light-headed
  • changes in mood
  • thoughts of self harm
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I take this with other medicines?

Do not take Dapoxetine if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • medicines for depression e.g. phenelzine, tranylcypromine, nefazodone
  • medicines for mood disorder e.g. lithium, thioridazine
  • medicines for fungal infection e.g. ketoconazole, itraconazole
  • medicines for HIV infection e.g. ritonavir, saquinavir, nelfinavir
  • certain antibiotics e.g. linezolid, telithromycin
  • medicines for moderate and severe pain e.g. tramadol
  • herbal supplement e.g. St. John’s wort
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • medicines for heart disease e.g. diltiazem, verapamil
  • certain antibiotics e.g. erythromycin, clarithromycin
  • blood-thinning medicine e.g. warfarin
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Dapoxetine.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicine, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
