Why do I need this medicine?

Dapsone is used to treat acne.

How do I use this medicine?

Use Dapsone exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Apply and gently rub the medicine into the affected areas. Avoid application of this medicine to the eyes, mouth, and other mucous membranes such as the inside of your nose.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have G6PD deficiency, an inherited condition in which the body doesn't have enough of the G6PD, an enzyme which helps red blood cells function normally.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What side effects could I experience?

Dapsone may cause any of the following side effects: oiliness, peeling, dryness, and redness of the skin.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I use this with other medicines?

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:

- medicines used to treat malaria e.g. quinine, chloroquine, mefloquine
- antibiotics e.g. riframpin, co-trimoxazole
- topical benzoyl peroxide (other medicine for acne)

This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Dapsone.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics, such as traditional Chinese medicine, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
