Why do I need this medicine?

Durvalumab is used to treat cancer of the lung and urinary tract.

How do I use this medicine?

Durvalumab injection is to be given intravenously (into the vein) as an infusion. It is delivered directly into the bloodstream via the blood vessel.

Your doctor or nurse will administer the injection for you.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

Ensure that you keep all appointments with your doctor so that you do not miss any doses. Your doctor also needs to regularly monitor your response to Durvalumab.

If you miss an appointment or miss an injection, alert your doctor or nurse. A replacement appointment or injection should be given as soon as possible.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?

Do not use Durvalumab if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby soon. If you become pregnant while being treated with this medicine, alert your doctor immediately. Durvalumab may cause harm to your unborn child. You must use proven birth control methods while taking this medicine and up to 3 months after treatment.

Let your doctor know if you are breastfeeding.

Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly.
  • You may need to have routine blood tests while you are being treated with Durvalumab. Your doctor will advise you about how often you will need to have these tests.
  • Your doctor may periodically conduct radiographic imaging for lung inflammation while you are being treated with this medicine.

What side effects could I experience?

Durvalumab may cause any of the following side effects: hoarse voice, nausea, constipation, night sweats, difficulty sleeping, decreased appetite, muscle pain, tiredness and swelling of the ankles, feet or hand.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • worsening cough, shortness of breath, chest pain, fast and irregular heartbeat
  • yellowing of the skin, eyes, pain near the stomach area, severe diarrhoea
  • decreased amount of urine you pass, painful urination
  • unexplained weight gain or weight loss, extreme tiredness, feeling cold, palpitation
  • feeling more hungry or thirsty than usual, urinating more often than usual
  • chills, itching, rash, flushing, lightheadedness, difficulty breathing
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I use this with other medicines?

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you a taking any of these medicines:
  • anti-inflammatory medicines e.g. prednisone
  • medicines used in organ transplant or certain immune disorders
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in the refrigerator, between 2-8°C, away from the reach of children.

Do not use this medicine if it becomes cloudy or if it has changed in colour. Do not freeze.

Keep in the original packaging to protect from light.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
