Why do I need this medicine?

Hydroquinone helps lighten dark skin caused by age spots, liver spots, freckles, as a result of pregnancy and from the use of oral contraceptives.

How do I use this medicine?

Apply Hydroquinone exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more often or over a larger area than instructed by your doctor.

Hydroquinone is available in various forms, such as cream, gel, lotion or topical solution.

If you have been given a cream, gel or lotion, follow these steps:
  1. Wash and dry your hands before applying this medicine.
  2. Clean and dry affected area before application.
  3. Apply a thin layer of Hydroquinone on the affected area(s) of the skin. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
  4. Wash your hands after applying the medicine.
If you are using a topical solution, follow these steps:
  1. Wash and dry your hands before applying this medicine.
  2. Clean and dry affected area before application.
  3. With a cotton pad, apply a small amount of Hydroquinone to the affected area(s) of your skin. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
  4. Wash your hands after applying the medicine.
Do not apply Hydroquinone on broken, irritated skin.

Avoid contact with eyes or mouth. Rinse immediately with water if this medicine gets into your eyes or mouth. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes or have accidentally swallowed this medicine.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to apply your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should I not use this medicine?

Do not use this medicine if you ever had an allergic reaction (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Hydroquinone.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Hydroquinone may make your skin to be more sensitive to sunlight. Apply sunscreen when going outdoors. Avoid direct or prolonged exposure to the sun and ultraviolet (UV) lamps like tanning beds.

What side effects could I experience?

Hydroquinone may cause mild skin irritation and stinging.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I use this with other medicines?

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place, away from the reach of children.
