Why do I need this medicine?

Ivermectin is used to treat parasitic infections and worm infections.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Ivermectin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Ivermectin should be taken on an empty stomach. Try to take it at the same time each day.

Take this medicine at regular intervals. Do not skip any doses and continue to take Ivermectin even when you feel better. To clear the infection, you must complete the entire course unless otherwise directed.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have a weak immune system.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

You may need to have your stool examined a few times. You may also need to have repeated courses of treatment.

Practise good hygiene to reduce the chances of getting infected again. Wash your hands before eating and after using the toilet.

What side effects could I experience?

Ivermectin may cause dizziness. This medicine may also cause you to suddenly fall asleep during your daily activities e.g. eating and watching television. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

You may also feel dizzy when getting up from a sitting or lying down position, especially if you are taking this medicine for the very first time. This is common and should improve gradually as you get used to Ivermectin. To minimise this problem, stand up slowly.

Other side effects include any of the following: itching, rash, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea and eye discomfort.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I take this with other medicines?

Inform you doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:

- medicines to treat epilepsy e.g. valproic acid, phenobarbital
- medicines for anxiety and depression e.g. benzodiazepines

This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Ivermectin.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicine, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
