Why do I need this medicine?

Mirabegron is used to treat overactive bladder (bladder function disorder that causes a sudden or frequent urge to urinate). It helps calm and relax the bladder to reduce the number of toilet visits and the urge to urinate.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Mirabegron exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take this medicine with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

If you are taking the delayed-release, prolonged-release, sustained-release or extended-release type of tablet (may be labelled “ER”), swallow it whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the tablet.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have very high uncontrolled blood pressure as Mirabegron may not be suitable for you.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • high blood pressure
  • liver disease
  • kidney disease
  • difficulty emptying your bladder or weak urine stream
  • heart rhythm disorder
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What side effects could I experience?

Mirabegron may cause any of the following side effects: high blood pressure, headache, rapid heartbeat, nausea, constipation and diarrhoea.

Some side effects may be serious, although they are not common. If you experience irregular heartbeat, stop taking the medicine and alert your doctor immediately.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I take this with other medicines?

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • medicine for mental illness e.g. thioridazine
  • medicine for abnormal heart rhythm e.g. flecainide, propafenone
  • medicine used for high blood pressure and heart disease e.g. digoxin
  • medicines for blood clotting e.g. warfarin, dabigatran
  • medicine for fungal infections e.g. ketoconazole
  • medicine for bacterial infections e.g. clarithromycin
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with this medicine.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
