Why do I need this medicine?

Mizolastine is used to relieve the symptoms of rhinitis (inflammation of the mucous membranes in the nose) and conjunctivitis (inflammation of the mucous membranes in the eye), such as runny nose, itchy, red or swollen eyes. It also helps relieve allergic skin conditions such as hives and itchy rash.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Mizolastine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by the doctor.

Try to take it at the same time each day.

You may stop taking Mizolastine once you feel better, unless your doctor has instructed you otherwise.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:

- liver disease
- heart disease e.g. irregular heartbeat
- low potassium level in the blood
as this medicine may not be suitable for you

Do not take Mizolastine with certain antibiotics (e.g. erythtromycin), medicines for fungal infection (e.g. ketoconazole), and medicines for irregular heartbeat (e.g. flecainide, amiodarone). Please see the section “Can I take this with other medicines?” below for more information.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?

Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Mizolastine to an elderly person or a child.

What side effects could I experience?

Mizolastine may cause dizziness or drowsiness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Other side effects may include any of the following: dry mouth, stomach discomfort, nausea, diarrhoea, headache, increased appetite with weight gain and muscle weakness.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I take this with other medicines?

Do not take Mizolastine with certain antibiotics (e.g. erythromycin, clarithromycin), medicines for fungal infection (e.g. ketoconazole, itraconazole), and medicines for irregular heartbeat (e.g. flecainide, amiodarone).

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines: .

- medicines for heart disease e.g. nifedipine
- medicines for stomach acid e.g. cimetidine
- medicines used in organ transplant or certain immune disorders e.g. ciclosporin

This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Mizolastine.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a tight container, in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
