Why do I need this medicine?

Nadroparin Calcium is used to treat blood clots in the leg veins and lungs.

This medicine may also be used to prevent blocked vessels by a blood clot during kidney dialysis.

This medicine may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.

How do I use this medicine?

Use Nadroparin Calcium exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not administer more or less than instructed by your doctor.

This medicine is to be injected subcutaneously (into the fatty layer under the skin such as the thigh, upper arm or abdomen area).

Do not administer into the same injection site. New spot should be at least 1 inch away from the previous injection site. Do not inject near the navel (belly button).

Throw away the used needle after each injection. Needles must not be re-used.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

Administer the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to administer your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:

- bleeding or any blood clot disorder
- active stomach ulcer
- severe uncontrolled high blood pressure
- severe kidney disease
- infection of the inner lining in your heart
- eye problems due to diabetes
- low platelet count due to heparin medication
- injuries or operation on the spinal cord, eyes or ears
as Nadroparin Calcium may not be suitable for you.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have the following:

- kidney disease
- liver disease
- history of stomach ulcer
- with an aid of an artificial heart valve

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly.

- Your platelet count may go beyond the safe levels without you noticing it.
- Your doctor may need to do routine blood tests and kidney or liver function tests while you are being treated with this medicine.

If you are going for an operation, including minor surgery and dental work, inform your doctor or dentist that you are being treated with Nadroparin Calcium.

What side effects could I experience?

Nadroparin Calcium may cause pain, bruising and irritation at the site of injection.

Alert your doctor of any unusual bruising or bleeding such as too much bleeding when you floss or brush your teeth. Alert your doctor if you notice blood in your urine or bowel movements or if you get a nose bleed.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I use this with other medicines?

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:

- other blood-thinning medicines e.g. aspirin
- medicines for pain and inflammation e.g. diclofenac, mefenamic acid, ibuprofen

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Do not refrigerate. Do not allow to freeze.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
