Why do I need this medicine?

Nystatin is used to treat fungal infections of the mouth and digestive system.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Nystatin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take Nystatin with or without food.

If you are using the oral suspension or syrup, shake the bottle well before you take it to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure your dose.

If you are using the oral liquid to treat fungal infections in the mouth, swish it around inside your mouth and hold it there for as long as possible (a few minutes) before swallowing. Wash the dropper with hot water before returning it to the bottle.

You may need to take Nystatin for some time before the full benefits can be felt. Continue to take this medicine even when you feel better and do not stop taking unless advised by the doctor to do so.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you ever had an allergic reaction (breathlessness, rashes, swollen eyes) to Nystatin.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have diabetes.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Maintain good oral hygiene, including the care of dentures. This is important in managing oral infections of the mouth.

What side effects could I experience?

Nystatin may cause any of the following side effects: diarrhoea, nausea, upset stomach pain, and vomiting.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience rashes with skin peeling or blisters.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I take this with other medicines?

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Protect from light.

Store the powder for oral suspension in the refrigerator between 2-8°C but do not freeze it otherwise it will become less effective. Once you have mixed the powder with water, take it immediately.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
