Why do I need this medicine?

Omalizumab is used to control symptoms of severe, persistent allergic asthma and prevent it from getting worse.

Omalizumab is used when your usual medicine cannot properly manage the symptoms of asthma.

How do I take this medicine?

Omalizumab is given as a subcutaneous injection. This means that it is injected into the fatty layer underneath the skin.

Your doctor or nurse will administer the injection for you. The injection is usually given once every 2 or 4 weeks. Your doctor will advise you about how often you need the injection.

While you are being treated with Omalizumab, continue to take the rest of your asthma medicine as instructed by your doctor. Do not stop taking any of your asthma medicine unless your doctor specifically told you to do so.

Omalizumab must be used regularly for it to be effective. Continue using this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop using it unless instructed by the doctor.
