Why do I need this medicine?

Podophyllotoxin is used to treat warts (local growth on the outer layer of the skin) around the external genital and anus.

Wart is caused by viruses from the human papillomavirus family and it can be spread via contact.

How do I use this medicine?

Apply Podophyllotoxin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not apply more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Try to apply it at the same time each day.

Podophyllotoxin is available as a gel, as a solution or as a paint.

To use this medicine, follow these steps:
  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Clean and dry affected area before application.
  3. Apply a thin layer necessary to cover the affected area using the applicator provided (gel, solution and paint) or with your finger (gel only). Allow the solution to dry. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
  4. Wash your hands after using.
  5. Replace the cap of the tube.
Avoid contact with healthy skin, eyes or mouth. Rinse immediately with water if this medicine gets into your eyes or mouth. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.

You may stop applying this medicine when you have no more warts.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • broken skin
  • inflamed or bleeding wound
as Podophyllotoxin may not be suitable for you.

Do not use Podophyllotoxin if you are pregnant or planning to have a baby soon. If you become pregnant while being treated with this medicine, alert your doctor immediately. Podophyllotoxin may cause harm to your unborn child. You must use proven birth control methods while using this medicine.

Do not use this medicine if you are breastfeeding.

Do not give Podophyllotoxin to children below 12 years old unless instructed to do so by the doctor.

DO NOT use this medicine with other medicines containing podophyllin.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?

If the symptoms of warts do not improve after 4 weeks of treatment, inform your doctor. Podophyllotoxin should not be used continuously for more than 4 weeks.

Avoid getting Podophyllotoxin into your vagina, urethra (a narrow tube that allows urine to pass out of the body) or rectum.

What side effects could I experience?

Podophyllotoxin may cause any of the following side effects: burning sensation, skin irritation, pain, itching and redness.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I use this with other medicines?

Do not use Podophyllotoxin if you are using other podophyllin containing medicines.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Keep the solution and gel away from excessive heat and flame.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
