Why do I need this medicine?

Posaconazole is used to prevent and treat fungal infections.

This medicine may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Posaconazole exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take it together with food or immediately after a meal. If you are unable to take a full meal, you may take the oral suspension with a liquid nutritional supplement or an acidic carbonated beverage (e.g. ginger ale). Try to take it at the same time each day.

This medicine is available as a tablet or as an oral suspension.

If you are taking the modified-release type of tablet (usually labeled as “ER”), swallow it whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the tablet.

If you are taking an oral suspension, shake the bottle well before you take it to ensure that the liquid is evenly mixed. Use the measuring spoon provided to measure your dose. Rinse the measuring spoon with water after administration and before storage.

There is a specific dosage recommendation for each formulation of this medicine. Tablets and oral suspension cannot be substituted for each other. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before you switch between taking a tablet or an oral suspension.

The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the treatment timeframe depending on the type and severity of your infection.

Posaconazole must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue using this medicine even when you feel better. Complete the entire course of medicine. Do not stop using it unless instructed by the doctor.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to use your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
