Why do I need this medicine?

Reboxetine is used to treat depression.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Reboxetine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Reboxetine may be taken with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not chew or crush it.

This medicine must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed otherwise, as stopping it suddenly could worsen your condition.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take you medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should I not use this medicine?

Do not take Reboxetine if you are taking or have taken other mood medicines known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Some examples of MAOIs include isocarboxazid, phenelzine, moclobemide, selegiline and tranylcypromine. Alert your doctor immediately if you are taking or have taken any of these medicines or other MAOIs.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have the following:

- kidney disease
- liver disease
- glaucoma (increased pressure in the eyes)
- heart disease or a recent heart attack
- history of epilepsy (seizures or fits)
- enlarged prostrate
- urinary problems
- suicidal thoughts

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine to a child.

Always keep your appointments with your doctor so that he will be able to monitor your response to Reboxetine.

What lifestyle changes should I make to cope with depression?

Regular exercise and eating a healthy diet will help increase energy and hormones in the body such as happy hormones that minimize mood swings. Get enough sleep, as lack of sleep may cause irritability, moodiness, sadness, and tiredness.

What side effects could I experience?

You may also feel drowsy or dizzy when getting up from a sitting or lying down position, especially if you are taking Reboxetine for the first time. This is normal and should improve gradually as you get used to the medicine. It will help if you get up slowly from a sitting or lying down position. If you feel drowsy or dizzy, sit or lie down until the drowsiness or dizziness goes away. Avoid driving or taking part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Other side effects include any of the following: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, headache, altered sense of taste, difficulty sleeping, sweating, difficulty passing urine, fast heartbeat, changes in your vision and dry mouth. Some men may experience problems with maintaining an erection or ejaculating when taking Reboxetine.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience unusual changes in mood or behaviour (being aggressive, agitated, or having compulsive and impulsive behaviour), or having suicidal thoughts.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I take this with other medicines?

Do not take Reboxetine if you are taking or have taken other mood medicines known as monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Some examples of MAOIs include isocarboxazid, phenelzine, moclobemide, selegiline and tranylcypromine.

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:

- other antidepressants e.g. fluvoxamine
- medicines for other mood disorder e.g. lithium, clomipramine
- antibiotics e.g. clarithromycin, erythromycin
- medicines to treat fungal infections e.g. ketoconazole, itraconazole, fluconazole
- medicines known as ergot derivatives which are used to treat migraine and Parkinson's disease
- medicines for high blood pressure
- diuretics (water pills)

This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Reboxetine.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicine, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
