Why do I need this medicine?

Tamsulosin and Dutasteride are combined together in this medicine.

Tamsulosin + Dutasteride is used to treat benign prostatic hypertrophy (enlargement of the prostate).

This medicine helps relieve symptoms of prostate enlargement such as difficulty in passing urine, slow or interrupted flow of urine, frequent urination and dribbling after passing urine.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Tamsulosin + Dutasteride exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Take this medicine 30 minutes after a meal. Swallow it whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the capsule. Try to take it after the same meal each day.

Tamsulosin + Dutasteride must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • severe liver disease
  • history of orthostatic hypotension (fall in blood pressure when standing up from a sitting or lying down position)
as Tamsulosin + Dutasteride may not be suitable for you.

This medicine is not indicated for use in women and children.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:

- prostate cancer
- kidney disease

Tamsulosin + Dutasteride may be absorbed through the skin. Women who are or may be pregnant must avoid handling this medicine. If an accidental contact from a punctured or leaking capsule occurs, wash the affected area immediately with soap and water.

Do not donate blood while you are being treated or for 6 months after you stopped taking this medicine.

If you are going for an operation such as cataract surgery, inform your doctor that you are taking Tamsulosin + Dutasteride.

Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly. Your doctor may need to perform blood tests (e.g. Prostate Specific Antigen) before you take this medicine and thereafter depending on your doctor’s advise.

What side effects could I experience?

Tamsulosin + Dutasteride may cause dizziness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Other side effects include any of the following: breast enlargement, tenderness or pain, decreased sex drive and problems in ejaculation or in maintaining an erection.

You may feel dizzy when getting up from a sitting or lying down position, especially if you are taking Tamsulosin + Dutasteride for the first time. This is common and should improve gradually as you get used to the medicine. It will help if you get up slowly from a sitting or lying down position.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I take this with other medicines?

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
  • medicines for fungal infections e.g. ketoconazole
  • medicines for HIV e.g. ritonavir, indinavir
  • medicines for depression e.g. paroxetine, nefazodone
  • medicines for stomach ulcer e.g. cimetidine
  • blood-thinning medicines e.g. warfarin
  • antibiotics e.g. erythromycin
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Tamsulosin + Dutasteride.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
