Why do I need this medicine?

Tazarotene is used on its own or together with other medicines to treat acne, mild to moderate plaque psoriasis (a type of skin disease characterised by itchy patches of thick, red skin and silvery scales).

This medicine may also be used to help reduce fine facial wrinkles and certain types of dark and light spots on the face (especially to those who are on a total skin care program and avoid sunlight).

How do I use this medicine?

Apply Tazarotene exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Tazarotene is available as a gel, cream or as a foam.

To use this medicine, follow these steps:
  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Clean and dry affected area before application.
  3. Apply a thin layer of Tazarotene on the skin. Rub gently until it disappears. Do not cover, wrap or bandage the area unless instructed by the doctor.
  4. Wash your hands after using.
  5. Replace the cap of the tube.
Use Tazarotene only on the affected areas of the skin. Avoid any contact of this medicine with your eyes, mouth, lips, broken or damaged skin. If an accidental contact occurs, rinse it immediately with water.

The dose of this medicine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the course of your treatment depending on your condition and response to the medication.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

Do not apply more than what is instructed by the doctor to make up for the missed dose.

When should I not use this medicine?

Do not use Tazarotene if you are pregnant. If you become pregnant while being treated with this medicine, alert your doctor immediately. Tazarotene may cause harm to your unborn child.

Do not use this medicine if you are breastfeeding.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?

Inform the doctor if you have personal or family history of skin cancer.

What side effects could I experience?

Tazarotene may cause any of the following side effects: itching, redness, burning sensation, irritation, inflammation, or peeling of the skin, and dry skin.

This medicine may also make your skin to be more sensitive to sunlight. Apply sunscreen when going outdoors and avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight and UV lamps.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I use this with other medicines?

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking or using any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Avoid alcohol.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
