Why do I need this medicine?

Tretinoin is used to treat mild to moderate acne.

This medicine may be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.

How do I use this medicine?

Use Tretinoin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Tretinoin is available as a gel or cream.

If you are given the gel or cream, follow these steps:
  1. Wash your hands.
  2. Wash the affected area and let it dry before applying the medicine.
  3. Using your fingertips, apply a thin layer of this medicine over the entire affected area.
  4. Wash your hands after each application.
  5. Allow the applied medicine to dry before using any other product or make up.

What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?

Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

Do not apply more than what is instructed by the doctor to make up for the missed dose.

What should I take note of while using this medicine?

Inform your doctor if you have skin swelling and severe irritation.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Tretinoin may cause your skin to be more sensitive to sunlight. Apply sunscreen when going outdoors. Avoid direct or prolonged exposure to the sun and ultraviolet (UV) lamps like tanning beds.

Avoid contact of this medicine with your eyes, nose or mouth. If this occurs, rinse the affected area immediately with water. Alert your doctor if you start to have any problems with your eyes.

Do not apply on inflammed, irritated, sunburned or broken skin.

What side effects could I experience?

Tretinoin may cause any of the following side effects: dryness, redness, itching, peeling, burning sensation, stinging, and changes in color of skin.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I use this with other medicines?

Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are using any other medicines in the affected skin e.g. photosensitizing agents (e.g. aminolevulinic acid, porfimer).

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

What special dietary instructions should I follow?

Limit your intake of vitamin A supplements. Avoid taking foods or beverages that are rich in vitamin A e.g. cod liver oil, halibut fish oil.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Protect from heat.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
