Why do I need this medicine?

Trimetazidine is used together with other medicines to prevent anginal attacks (severe chest pain which occurs when the heart does not receive enough blood and oxygen).

Trimetazidine is also used together with other medicines to treat vertigo (dizziness with sensations of spinning), tinnitus (ringing in the ears) as well as eye disorders caused by problems in the blood vessels.

How do I take this medicine?

Take Trimetazidine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

Trimetazidine will not relieve a sudden attack of chest pain. Instead, Trimetazidine must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue with this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop this medicine unless instructed by the doctor.

Take Trimetazidine together with food.

If you have been given the modified-release type of tablet, swallow it whole. Do not cut, chew or crush the tablet.

What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.

When should I not use this medicine?

Alert your doctor if you have the following conditions:

- movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease (a brain disease that affects movement), restless legs syndrome (a nerve disorder that causes uncomfortable sensations in the legs) and tremors (involuntary shaking of the hands or legs)
- severe kidney disease
as Trimetazidine may not be suitable for you.

What should I take note of while taking this medicine?

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

What side effects could I experience?

The common side effects with Trimetazidine may include any of the following: abdominal pain, diarrhoea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, weakness, dizziness, headache, rash, itching and redness. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.

Notify your doctor if you experience symptoms that resemble Parkinson's disease (e.g. tremors, slowed movements, stiffness of the arms and legs), gait instability (imbalance while walking) and other movement disorders, as Trimetazidine may have to be stopped.

Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.

Can I take this with other medicines?

Always notify your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicine, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

How should I store this medicine?

Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
