Amlodipine besilate
Indications/Uses
High BP; angina pectoris or vasospastic angina.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 5 mg daily. May be raised to 10 mg once daily after 2-4 wk.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take w/ a glass of water. May be divided along the score-line.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patient w/ very low BP; in states of shock;  haemodynamically unstable heart failure after MI; aortic stenosis.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ poor heart function eg, heart failure. Impaired liver function; patients undergoing dialysis. Possible side effects eg, headache, dizziness, headache, fatigue or nausea may affect safety at work & in traffic. Pregnancy. Not to be taken during lactation. Not recommended in childn & adolescents <18 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, somnolence, dizziness, nausea, stomach pains, red face w/ sensation of warmth, swollen ankles, oedema & fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Conc may be raised w/ ketoconazole, itraconazole or ritonavir. Conc may be reduced w/ rifampicin; St. John's wort. May strengthen action of other BP-lowering drugs & diuretics. Tacrolimus. Clarithromycin.
