Indications/Uses
1st-line treatment of HTN, as monotherapy or in combination w/ thiazide diuretics, α-blockers, β-adrenoceptor blockers, or ACE inhibitors. 1st-line treatment of myocardial ischemia, whether due to fixed obstruction (stable angina) &/or vasospasm/vasoconstriction (Prinzmetal's or variant angina) or coronary vasculature; may be used where clinical presentation suggests possible vasospastic/vasoconstrictive component but where vasospasm/vasoconstriction has not been confirmed; in patients w/ angina refractory to nitrates &/or adequate β-blockers doses, as monotherapy or in combination w/ other antianginal drugs.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN & angina Initially 5 mg once daily. Max: 10 mg depending on individual response.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to amlodipine or other dihydropyridines.
Special Precautions
Hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, edema, fatigue, abdominal pain, nausea, flushing, somnolence, palpitation & dizziness.
