Cefixime
Indications/Uses
Bronchiolitis, bronchiectasis, chronic secondary resp infection, pneumonia, nephropyelitis, cystitis, gonorrheal urethritis, cholecystitis, cholangitis, scarlatina, otitis media, sinusitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >30 kg 50-100 mg bd. May be increased to 200 mg bd for severe or insufficient effect.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ food or milk to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. History of shock.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to cephem antibiotics & penicillins. Severe renal disorder. Poor systemic condition. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Anaphylactoid symptoms; hypersensitivity reactions; eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia; SGOT, SGPT, AL-P elevations; nausea, vomiting, loose stool, diarrhea, ache, dizziness.
