TabAdult & childn >12 yrMild to moderate infections 375 mg tds. More severe, & resp tract infections 625 mg tds. Childn <12 yr Based on 25-50 mg/kg/day (based on amoxycillin component), depending on the severity of infection. Oral susp Childn 7-12 yr 10 mL of susp 156.25 mg/5 mL tds or 5 mL of susp 312.5 mg/5 mL tds; 2-7 yr 5 mL of susp 156.25 mg/5 mL tds; 9 mth-2 yr 2.5 mL of susp 156.25 mg/5 mL tds. Moderate impairment (CrCl 10-30 mL/min) 375 or 625 mg 12 hrly. Severe impairment (CrCl <10 mL/min) 375 mg 12 hrly, or 625 mg 24 hrly.
Should be taken with food. Film-coated tab: Swallow whole w/ water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Potential cross-allergy w/ other penicillin derivatives & cephalosporins. Not for patients w/ infectious mononucleosis or lymphatic leukemia. Antiperistaltics.
Do not exceed treatment to 14 days w/o review. Discontinue w/ antibiotic-induced pseudomonas colitis w/ severe & persistent diarrhea. Carry out dark field exam in patients w/ gonorrhoea & suspected primary syphilitic lesions. Patients w/ allergic diathesis, bronchial asthma, urticaria or hay fever. Renal & hepatic insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation.
Antiperistaltics. Potential occurrence of cutaneous reactions w/ allopurinol. May attenuate effects of OCs. False +ve results w/ non-enzymatic methods for determination of urinary sugar. Urobilinogen tests can be affected & may result to +ve direct antiglobilin tests. Avoid alcohol intake for potential antabuse-like syndrome. Do not administer concomitantly w/ disulfiram. Amoxycillin: Prolonged increased conc w/ probenecid. Reduced absorption w/ antacids.
