Pharmacological Classification: Topical antibiotic.
Fusidic acid and its salts show strong surface activity and are also fat soluble. These properties facilitate its diffusion between aqueous and lipid phases in complex media. This may account in part for the tissue penetrating properties exhibited by the antibiotic.
Fusigen has been shown experimentally to penetrate skin as effectively as the corticosteroids.
Treatment of skin infections caused by staphylococci, either alone or in combination with systemic therapy.
Adults and Children: Uncovered Lesions: Apply gently 3 or 4 times daily.
Covered Lesions: Less frequent applications may be adequate.
Infections caused by nonsusceptible organisms, in particular Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Caution should be exercised when using Fusigen ointment near the eye.
Hypersensitivity has been encountered during use of topical Fusigen ointment.
Store in a cool, dark and dry place.
