Tinidazole
Indications/Uses
Amoebiasis, trichomoniasis & giardiasis; anaerobic infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Amoebiasis 2 g daily for 2-3 days, followed on subsequent days by 1 g daily or 500 mg bd. Childn 50-60 mg/kg/day. Giardiasis & Trichomoniasis 2 g as a single dose.
Contraindications
History of blood dyscrasias & neurological disorder. Pregnancy & lactation (1st trimester).
Special Precautions
Patients taking anticoagulants. Avoid alcohol intake.
Adverse Reactions
Metallic taste, furred tongue, GI discomfort, dark urine, neuropathy & epileptiform seizures, urticaria, leucopenia, angioedema.
Drug Interactions
Disulfiram-like reaction w/ alcohol. Synergism w/ ampicillin, doxycycline & cotrimoxazole.
