Prevention of post-partum hemorrhage 600 mcg orally immediately after delivery of baby & all features (in case of multiple births). Treatment of post-partum hemorrhage 800 mcg sublingually or 1,000 mcg rectally. Incomplete abortion & missed miscarriage in 1st trimester 800 mcg vaginally or sublingually & repeat after 24 hr. Duodenal, gastric & NSAID-induced peptic ulcer 800 mcg orally in 2 or 4 divided doses for 4-8 wk.
Should be taken with food: For treatment of duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer & NSAID induced peptic ulcer: Take in 2 or 4 divided doses after breakfast and/main meal & at bedtime.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to prostaglandins. Confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy or undiagnosed adnexal mass. Chronic adrenal failure. Hemorrhagic disorders or concurrent anticoagulant therapy. Treatment or prevention of ulcers in pregnant women or women of child bearing potential.
Not to be used to treat or prevent postpartum hemorrhage in twins or multiple pregnancies until after delivery of all newborns. Excessive bleeding. Increased risk of uterine tachysystole & rupture, meconium passage & staining of amniotic fluid, & caesarian delivery w/ higher doses. Not to be co-administered w/ other drugs that cause diarrhea eg, Mg-containing antacids. Lactation. Childn.
