Indications/Uses
Adjunct treatment in NIDDM when blood sugar levels cannot be controlled adequately w/ diet, exercise & wt reduction.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 1 mg once daily. Titration in dose: 1 mg-2 mg-3 mg-4 mg-6 mg at the intervals of 1-2 wk. Maintenance: 1-4 mg once daily. Max: 8 mg once daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before or during breakfast, or the 1st main meal of the day. Do not skip meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to sulphonylureas, IDDM, diabetic precoma or coma.
Special Precautions
Risk of hypoglycemia. Monitor glucose levels regularly. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Hypoglycemia, visual impairment, GI disturbances. Allergic or pseudoallergic reactions, allergic vasculitis, photosensitivity or a decrease in serum Na.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced hypoglycemic effect by: Anticoagulants, androgens, chloramphenicol, clofibrate, fenfluramine, fluconazole, histamine H2-antagonists, Mg salts, methyldopa, phenylbutazone, probenecid, sulphonamides & urinary acidifiers. Inhibited hypoglycemic effect by: Blockers, rifampicin, diazoxide, thiazide diuretics & urinary alkalisers.
