Concise Prescribing Info
Roxifirst 50 Upper & lower resp tract, ENT, genital (Neisseria gonorrhoeae), skin & soft tissue infections. Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Chlamydia trachomatis infections & diseases eg, Legionella. Roxifirst 150 ENT infections eg, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, sinusitis & otitis media. Bronchopulmonary infections eg, bronchitis, pneumonia (Mycoplasma or Legionella) & pertussis. Genito-urinary infections eg, urethritis, cervicitis, cervico-vaginitis (Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, & Ureaplasma urealyticum but excluding gonococcal infections). Skin infections eg, furunculosis, pyoderma, impetigo & erysipelas due to Staphylococcus aureus & Group A β-hemolytic streptococci.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Roxifirst 50 Childn 24-40 kg early, late of the 2 packets; 12-23 kg early, the night a packet; 6-11 kg as early as late equal packet. Roxifirst 150 1 tab bd or up to 300 mg once daily. Duration of treatment: β-haemolytic streptococcal infections Min of 10 days. Severely impaired hepatic function 150 mg daily.
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Pregnancy & lactation. Roxifirst 50 Liver, renal dysfunction. Roxifirst 150 Hypersensitivity to roxithromycin or to other macrolide antibiotics. Concomitant administration w/ vasoconstrictive ergot alkaloid derivatives.
Special Precautions
Roxifirst 150 Caution in patients w/ severe hepatic impairment. Accumulation of drug may occur in renal insufficiency. Prolonged t1/2 in elderly >65 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Roxifirst 150 Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea & gastric pain.
Drug Interactions
Roxifirst 150 Serious adverse effects including ventricular arrhythmia w/ astemizole, terfenadine & cisapride. May suppress GI flora responsible for the metabolism of digoxin & possibly OCs. May cause toxicity w/ theophylline.
