Short term use for symptomatic improvement & healing of GI diseases which require reduction in acid secretion eg, duodenal & gastric ulcer, moderate & severe reflux esophagitis, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & other pathological hypersecretory conditions.
40 mg/day IV administered over 2-15 min. Max duration: 8 wk. Long term management of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome & other pathological hypersecretory conditions Initially 80 mg daily. Thereafter, titrate dose up or down as needed. Doses >80 mg: divide dose & give bd.
Administration is recommended only if oral application is not appropriate. Not indicated for mild GI complaints eg, nervous dyspepsia. Exclude possibility of malignancy of gastric ulcer or disease of esophagus prior to treatment. Renal impairment. Severe liver impairment (discontinue in case of a rise in liver enzymes). Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly. Childn.
