Dextromethorphan HBr, diphenhydramine HCl.
Description
Each 5-mL syrup contains dextromethorphan HBr 7.5 mg and diphenhydramine HCl 12.5 mg.
Action
Woods' Peppermint Antitussive Syrup for nonproductive cough is appropriate for the treatment of nonproductive cough accompanied by allergy, because it contains the combination of antitussive and antihistamine, dextromethorphan HBr and diphenhydramine HCl, respectively.
Dextromethorphan as an antitussive works by suppressing the cough central and by increasing the threshold of cough stimulation in the central nervous system.
Indications/Uses
Nonproductive cough accompanied by allergy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adults and Children >12 years: 2 tsps (10 mL) 3 times daily. 6-12 years: 1 tsp (5 mL) 3 times daily.
Overdosage
In high doses, it can cause depression on respiratory and central nervous system or in patients with respiratory function disorder (eg, asthma and emphysema).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any of the active ingredients.
Glaucoma, bronchial asthma, and patients with respiratory failure.
Use in pregnancy & lactation: Woods' Peppermint Antitussive Syrup is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating mothers.
Special Precautions
Wood's Peppermint Antitussive Syrup is not recommended for productive cough.
If cough persists after 3 days, consult a physician for advice.
If the patient is drowsy, debilitated or hypoxic, caution should be taken while using Wood's Peppermint Antitussive Syrup.
Wood's Peppermint Antitussive Syrup should be used with caution in patients with hepatic disorders.
Special precautions should be taken by patients taking alcohol or tranquilizers.
Effects on the Ability to Drive or Operate Machinery: Do not drive or operate machinery while using Wood's Peppermint Antitussive Syrup.
Use in children: Not recommended for children <6 years, except under a physician's advice.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Woods' Peppermint Antitussive Syrup is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating mothers.
Adverse Reactions
Vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness and constipation.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use with MAO Inhibitors could give CNS stimulation and severe respiratory depression.
Storage
Store below 30°C. Protect from direct sunlight.
