Contents
Per tab Cefixime trihydrate 200 mg, K clavulanate 125 mg. Per 5 mL syr Cefixime trihydrate 50 mg, K clavulanate 31.25 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment of infections eg UTI, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute bronchitis & acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, gonorrhoea (cervical/urethral), typhoid fever.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1 tab bd for 7-14 days. Childn 8 mg/kg/day as a single dose or in 2 divided doses, >12 yr (>50 kg) Same as adult dose, 5 yr 7.5 mL bd, 3 yr 6 mL bd, 2 yr 5 mL bd, 1 yr 4 mL bd, 6 mth 2.5 mL bd.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. History of GI disease particularly colitis. Concomitant anticoagulant therapy. Renal impairment. Patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis & hemodialysis. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, loose stools, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, nausea & vomiting; skin rashes, urticaria, drug fever & pruritus, erythema multiforme, Stevens-Johnson syndrome & serum sickness-like reactions; transient elevations in SGPT, SGOT & alkaline phosphatase, BUN, creatinine; headache, dizziness; transient thrombocytopenia, leukopenia & eosinophilia; genital pruritus, vaginitis & candidiasis.
