Histopathology
The histopathology of wrinkles features epidermal atrophy with spinous layer thinning, a flattened dermoepidermal junction with loss of rete ridges, decreased collagen content, and deposition of amorphous masses of abnormally thickened, curled, and disintegrated elastic fibers and collagen breakdown products. Increased atypical melanocytes and atypical epidermal cells may also be present.
