Purified vero cell rabies vaccine
Active immunization against rabies, both for prophylaxis & post-bite therapy in all age groups. Immunization against rabies after contact w/ a rabid or suspected rabid animal. Prophylactic immunization of all high-risk individuals.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Pre-exposure prophylaxis Adult 0.1 mL in deltoid (intradermal) or 0.5 mL in deltoid (IM) on days 0, 7 & 21/28. Childn 0.1 mL in anterolateral area of the thigh (intradermal) or 0.5 mL in anterolateral area of the thigh on days 0, 7 & 21/28. Booster: 1 dose every 1-3 yr depending on risks of exposure. Post-exposure treatment IM schedule: 0.5 mL, to be given either as 5-dose IM regimen (1 dose on days 0, 3, 7, 14 & 28) or as 2-1-1 regimen (2 doses are given on day 0 in the deltoid or anterolateral region, right & left side. In addition, 1 dose in the deltoid or anterolateral region, right or left side.). Intradermal schedule: 0.1 mL. 1 dose is given over each left & right deltoid on days 0, 3, 7. 1 dose at single site in deltoid on day 28/30 & day 90.
Special Precautions
Concurrent use of immunosuppressants eg, corticosteroids. In case of severe bites & site of injuries near the head, local infiltration of the wounds w/ antirabies Ig is recommended. Delay in commencement of post-bite therapy, incomplete & irregular therapy can cause failure of protection.
Adverse Reactions
Mild pain, erythema, induration, pruritus, rash, edema at the site of inj. Mild fever, headache, myalgia, malaise.
