Indications/Uses
Secretolytic/mucolytic agent in acute & chronic bronchopulmonary diseases associated w/ abnormal mucus secretion & impaired mucus transport. Antidote for paracetamol poisoning.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Mucolytic 1 tab bid-tid. Adult Antidote for paracetamol poisoning 2 tab soln immediately & then 1 tab soln after 4 hr until symptoms are controlled.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Dissolve 1 tab in 100 mL of drinking water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Active peptic ulcer.
Special Precautions
Bronchial asthma due to risk of bronchospasm; PUD. Discontinue in case of allergic reaction. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Bronchospasm, angioedema, rashes & pruritus; hypotension or HTN (occasionally). Flushing, nausea & vomiting, fever, syncope, sweating, arthralgia, blurred vision, liver function disturbances, acidosis, convulsions & cardiac or resp arrest.
Drug Interactions
Interacts w/ activated charcoal & medications containing nitroglycerine. Oral antibiotics (administer at least w/ 2-hr interval). Incompatible w/ some metals including Fe & Cu, w/ rubber, & w/ O2 & oxidizing substances. Physically incompatible w/, or may inactivate amphotericin B, ampicillin Na, erythromycin lactobionate & some tetracyclines on mixture.
