Cetirizine HCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of allergic conditions including rhinitis & chronic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥6 yr 10 mg daily or 5 mg bid. Childn 2-5 yr 5 mg daily as a single dose or 2.5 mg bid. Childn 6 mth-2 yr Perennial allergic rhinitis & chronic urticaria Initially 2.5 mg daily, may be increased to a max of 5 mg daily. Hepatic & renal impairment Reduced to ½ the usual daily dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypokalemic patients w/ chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. Childn w/ hepatic & renal impairment ≤6 yr.
Special Precautions
May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy. Not recommended during lactation. Childn & infants. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness; irritability, insomnia, somnolence, fatigue, dry mouth, pharyngitis, dizziness, headache, abdominal pain, cough, diarrhea, epistaxis, bronchospasm, nausea & vomiting, hypersensitivity manifested by urticaria & fixed drug eruptions.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced sedation w/ CNS depressants eg, barbiturates, alcohol, hypnotic, opioid analgesics, anxiolytic sedatives & neuroleptics. Enhanced effects of alcohol & other CNS depressants.
