Indications/Uses
Treatment of UTI, otitis media, resp tract infections, enteric infections, bacterial meningitis, gm -ve septicemia, biliary tract infections, other surgical infections, infective endocarditis & listeriosis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Usual dose: 500 mg IM 4-6 hrly or slow IV inj over 3-5 min or by infusion. Serious infections eg, meningitis Adult 150-300 mg/kg daily in divided doses. Childn 100-400 mg/kg daily in divided doses.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillin. Glandular fever of lymphatic leukemia.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, skin rashes, pruritus, urticaria, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, anaphylactic shock, anemia, thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, agranulocytosis, laryngeal stridor & high fever.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid, OC & atenolol. Allopurinol.
