Anastrozole
Indications/Uses
Adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women w/ hormone receptor +ve early breast cancer. 1st-line treatment of postmenopausal women w/ hormone receptor +ve or hormone receptor unknown locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer. 2nd-line treatment of advanced breast cancer on postmenopausal women w/ disease progression following tamoxifen therapy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Premenopausal women. Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Women w/ preexisting ischemic heart disease. Mean increase in both lumbar spine & total hip bone mineral density. Risk of elevated serum cholesterol. Lactation. Adolescent boys. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Hot flashes, asthenia, arthritis, arthralgia, pharyngitis, HTN, depression, nausea & vomiting, rash, osteoporosis, fractures; back, bone pain; insomnia, headache, peripheral edema, increased cough, dyspnea, pharyngitis & lymphedema.
Drug Interactions
Reduced plasma conc w/ tamoxifen. May diminish action w/ estrogen-containing therapies.
