Contents
Per 5 mL syr Fe sulfate heptahydrate (equiv to elemental Fe 30 mg/5 mL). Per mL oral drops Fe sulfate heptahydrate (equiv to elemental Fe 25 mg)
Indications/Uses
Fe deficiency anemia & other nutritional anemia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Syr Adult 5-10 mL tid. Childn 2.5-5 mL tid. Oral drops Infant 3 mth to 1 yr 0.6-1.2 mL bid-tid, <3 mth 0.3-0.6 mL.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Anemia not due to Fe deficiency, Fe intolerance, inability to absorb Fe or presence of ulcerative colitis, regional enteritis, colostomy, ileostomy or hemochromatosis.
Special Precautions
Patients receiving repeated blood transfusions or w/ anemias produced by Fe deficiency. Severe GI corrosion may occur in childn ingesting excessive amount of Fe.
Adverse Reactions
GI irritation & abdominal pain w/ nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation.
