Concise Prescribing Info
Per 15 mg/2 mg tab Pioglitazone HCl 15 mg, glimepiride 2 mg. Per 30 mg/2 mg tab Pioglitazone HCl 30 mg, glimepiride 2 mg
Adjunct to diet & exercise as a once-daily combination therapy to improve glycemic control in patients w/ type 2 diabetes who are already treated w/ a combination of pioglitazone & a sulfonylurea; whose diabetes is not adequately controlled w/ a sulfonylurea alone; patients who have initially responded to pioglitazone alone & require additional glycemic control.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Usual dose: 30 mg/2 mg once daily. Max dose: Pioglitazone 45 mg.
Should be taken with food: Take w/ 1st main meal of the day.
Diabetic ketoacidosis w/ or w/o coma, NYHA Class III or IV cardiac status.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ edema. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Myalgia, tooth disorder, aggravation of DM, pharyngitis, edema; hypoglycemia, headache, nausea, dizziness, asthenia.
Drug Interactions
Enzyme inhibitor or reducer of CYP2C8 eg gemfibrozil, rifampicin. Adrenaline (epinephrine), aminogluthethimide, chlorpromazine, corticosteroids, diazoxide, OCs, rifamycins, thiazide diuretics. ACE inhibitors, alcohol, allopurinol, azapropazone, phenylbutazone, salicylates, azole antifungals, chloramphenicol, cimetidine, clofibrate & related compd, coumarin anticoagulants, halofenate, heparin, MAOIs, octreotide, ranitidine, sulfinpyrazone, sulfonamides, tetracyclines, TCAs, thyroid hormones.
