Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult : Mouth/Throat Pain or irritation of the mouth and throat As 0.15% spray: 4-8 puffs 1.5-3 hrly. As 0.15% gargle: Rinse or gargle 15 mL 1.5-3 hrly. Treatment duration: ≤7 days. Topical Pain and inflammation associated w/ musculoskeletal and joint disorders As 3-5% preparation: Apply 35-85 mm (1-2 g) to affected area tid, up to 6 times/day in severe conditions, for up to 10 days.
Dosage Details
Mouth/Throat
Pain or irritation of the mouth and throat
Adult: As 0.15% spray: 4-8 puffs 1.5 -3 hrly. As 0.15% gargle: Rinse or gargle 15 mL 1.5-3 hrly. Duration of treatment: ≤7 days. Dilute w/ an equal volume of water if stinging occurs.
Child: As spray: <6 yr 1 puff/4 kg (Max 4 puffs) 1.5-3 hrly; 6-12 yr 4 puffs 1.5-3 hrly.

Topical/Cutaneous
Pain and inflammation associated with musculoskeletal and joint disorders
Adult: As 3-5% preparation: Apply 35-85 mm (1-2 g) to affected area tid, or up to 6 times daily in severe conditions. Duration of treatment: ≤10 days.
Special Precautions
Patient w/ or w/ history of bronchial asthma. Renal impairment. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions associated w/ pruritus, rash, urticaria, photosensitivity, erythema (topical). Stinging sensation, numbness; rarely, bronchospasm (oral).
Action
Description: Benzydamine inhibits the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines including tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) w/o significantly affecting other proinflammatory (IL-6 and 8) or anti-inflammatory cytokines (IL-10, IL-1 receptor antagonist), thus reducing local pain and inflammation.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Absorbed in oral mucosa and intact skin. Time to peak plasma concentration: 2-4 hr (oral).
Distribution: Plasma-protein binding: <20% (oral).
Metabolism: Metabolised primarily to N-oxide.
Excretion: Via urine, mainly as unchanged drug. Elimination half-life: Approx 13 hr (oral).
