Concise Prescribing Info
Per Berodual MDI Fenoterol HBr 50 mcg, ipratropium Br 20 mcg. Per 4 mL Berodual F unit-dose vial (UDV) Fenoterol HBr 1.25 mg, ipratropium Br 0.5 mg
Prevention & treatment of symptoms in chronic obstructive airway disorders w/ reversible airflow limitation eg, bronchial asthma & especially chronic bronchitis w/ or w/o emphysema.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Berodual MDI Adult & childn >6 yr Acute asthma episodes 2 puff for prompt relief. More severe cases 2 further puff may be taken. Intermittent & long-term treatment 1-2 puff, max of 8 puff/day. Berodual F UDV Adult & childn >12 yr Acute asthma episodes 1 vial, in very severe cases, 2 vials are needed. Intermittent & long-term treatment 1 vial up to qid.
Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, tachyarrhythmias. Hypersensitivity to atropine-like substances or soya lecithin or related food products (for MDI only).
Special Precautions
Diabetic patients w/ unstable metabolism; recent MI, severe organic heart or vascular disorders; narrow-angle glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma; prostatic hypertrophy or bladder-neck obstruction; cystic fibrosis. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Fine tremor of skeletal muscles, nervousness, restlessness, palpitations; less frequently tachycardia, dizziness or headache. Dry mouth, throat irritation or allergic reactions, cough, paradoxical bronchoconstriction (rare). Urinary retention may occur in particular, in patients w/ preexisting outflow tract obstruction.
Drug Interactions
Other β-adrenergics, anticholinergics, xanthine derivatives; β-blockers; diuretics; digoxin, MAOIs, TCAs; halogenated hydrocarbon anesth.
