Bicalutamide
Indications/Uses
Advanced prostate cancer in combination w/ LHRH analog therapy or surgical castration. Prevention of disease flare associated w/ the use of LHRH agonists.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab once daily (morning or evening at the same time each day).
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Women. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Special Precautions
Risk of hepatitis, gynecomastia & breast pain; reduced glucose tolerance or loss of glycemic control in patients w/ preexisting diabetes. Perform periodic monitoring of serum prostate specific antigen. Patients w/ moderate to severe hepatic impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Edema, neoplasm, cyst, hernia, infection, fever, chills, sepsis, fatigue, flu syndrome; pain in the back, pelvic, chest, neck & abdomen. CV, GI, endocrine, metabolic & nutritional, hematologic, musculoskeletal, CNS, resp, immune system disorders, skin & appendages, hepatic & urogenital effects; cataract; abnormal laboratory test values.
Drug Interactions
Increased midazolam Cmax & AUC. Displaced warfarin (coumarin anticoagulants) from its protein-binding site in vitro. May prevent the harmful clinical consequences of flare associated w/ LHRH agonist therapy. Increased plasma conc w/ Ca channel blockers, cimetidine & ketoconazole. Facial flushing w/ alcohol.
