Bromhexine is a mucolytic used in the treatment of lung disorders associated with productive cough (cough that produces phlegm). This medicine helps by making your phlegm thinner so that you can get rid of it easily.
Take Bromhexine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Bromhexine may be taken with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.
This medicine is available as a tablet, or oral solution.
If you are taking the oral solution or syrup, use the measuring spoon or cup provided to measure out your prescribed dose.
The dose of Bromhexine will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will advise you on the dose and course of your treatment depending on your condition.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double dose under any circumstances.
Inform your doctor if you have stomach ulcers or history of stomach ulcers.
Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine to a child.
Bromhexine may cause any of the following side effects: diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache, dizziness, sweating and rashes.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
- rashes, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or throat
- severe blistering or peeling of the skin, mouth, lips, or genitals
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
