Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of vit c deficiency.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1-2 tab daily. Dissolve 1 tab in approx 200 mL of water. Drink as soon as tab dissolves.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Dissolve 1 tab in a glass of water (approx 200mL). Drink as soon as tab dissolves. Do not chew or swallow.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Kidney stones. Thalassaemia, haemochromatosis, sideroblastic anaemia.
Special Precautions
Do not exceed recommended dose in patients w/ hereditary disorders of RBC eg, G6PD deficiency. Increase renal clearance of vit C w/ increased intake. Risk of recurring formation of kidney stones (in high doses). Formation of crystals of salt in kidneys. Avoid intake in patients w/ renal failure. Can interfere w/ some blood & urine tests. Regular smoker, Kidney failure.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting; flushing or redness of skin; haemolytic anaemia; increase urine flow; headache.
Drug Interactions
Increase bioavailability of oestrogens. Increase oxidation w/ corticosteroids. Increase consumption w/ calcitonin. Inhibit active transportation of salicylates through intestine. Inhibit intracellular metabolism w/ ASA, barbiturates & tetracyclines. Reduced effect of warfarin. Decrease therapeutic effect of phenothiazines. Reduced conc of fluphenazine. May interfere w/ disulfiram-alcohol interaction. Reduced ascorbic acid levels w/ alcohol.
