Indications/Uses
RA, OA & ankylosing spondylitis. Adjunctive treatment of adenomatous colorectal polyps. Acute pain & dysmenorrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
OA 200 mg daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses or 200 mg bid if necessary. RA 100-200 mg bid. Ankylosing spondylitis Initially 200 mg daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. May be increased to 400 mg daily after 6 wk; consider alternative treatment if no response after further 6 wk. Pain & dysmenorrhea Initially 400 mg followed by an additional 200 mg if necessary on the 1st day; thereafter 200 mg bid. Adjunctive therapy to reduce the number of adenomatous colorectal polyps in patient w/ familial adenomatous polyposis 400 mg bid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Dose for OA/RA may be given w/ or w/o meals, but doses for adenomatous colorectal polyps must be given w/ meals.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
History of ischaemic heart or cerebrovascular disease. Patients w/ significant risk factors for CV disease or peripheral arterial disease. Dehydrated patients.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances especially diarrhea; serious skin reactions eg, exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome & toxic epidermal necrolysis; anaphylaxis & angioedema.
Drug Interactions
Decreased absorption by antacids or histamines H2-receptor antagonists. Reduced renal excretion w/ probenecid.
