Rice based oral rehydration salts.
Description
Each 12 g sachet contains: Precooked Rice Flour (Extruded) 10.33 g, Sodium Chloride B.P. 0.52 g, Sodium Citrate B.P. 0.58 g, Potassium Chloride B.P. 0.30 g, Zinc Sulphate B.P. 17.58 mg.
Properties 60 g Rice-based Oral Rehydration Salts (Cerelyte) when reconstituted to a litre of suspension, supplies: Sodium 75 mmol, Potassium 20 mmol, Chloride 65 mmol, Citrate 10 mmol.
Electrolyte concentrations as in WHO formula.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: Aspartame, Orange Flavor DC 116, Malic acid.
Indications/Uses
Reduction in stool output and restoration of fluid and electrolyte balance in diarrhoea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
For replenishment of moderate fluid losses the following quantities of reconstituted rice-based oral rehydration salts (Cerelyte) may be given in divided doses.
Infants and children: 8-12 mL per kg body weight per hour or depending on the need. Administer one teaspoonful every 1 to 2 minutes.
Older children and adults: 2 to 3 liters or 10 to 15 glasses of 200 mL suspension.
Stir the suspension during use. Discard the suspension if it remains unused for more than 4 hours.
Contraindications
Continued vomiting.
Special Precautions
Use Cerelyte with caution in patients diagnosed with impaired renal function. Severe fluid losses may need parenteral fluids along with other oral-rehydration salts. Loose sachets should not be used.
Storage
Store at temperature not exceeding 30°C, protected from light and moisture.
Shelf Life: 36 months from the date of manufacture.
