Indications/Uses
Supplement for improvement of thinking, learning & memory in people suffering from Alzheimer's disease, dementia, head trauma, Parkinson's disease & glaucoma. Loss of consciousness due to brain damage, head injury or brain surgery & cerebral infarction, age-related memory problems & stroke.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Disturbance of consciousness due to head injury or brain surgery 100-500 mg once daily to bid. Disturbance of consciousness in the acute stage of cerebral infarction 1,000 mg once daily for 2 consecutive wk.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Administer in conjunction w/ intracranial pressure-relieving drugs or hemostatic & treatment eg, hypothermia during acute & emergency condition. Avoid high dose (>500 mg concomitantly) since it may exaggerate blood flow in the brain if intracranial bleeding continues. Hypersensitivity. Start inj w/in 2 wk after apoplectic stroke in patients w/ disturbance of consciousness in acute stage of cerebral infarction. Avoid in pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Rash; insomnia, headache, dizziness, convulsion; nausea, anorexia; abnormal liver function; diplopia; flushing, transient BP changes or malaise.
Drug Interactions
May increase effects of levodopa.
