Indications/Uses
Treatment of resp tract infections, mild to moderate skin & soft tissue infections, otitis media, H. pylori eradications.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 250 mg bid, may be increased up to 500 mg bid in severe infection for 7-14 days. Childn 7.5 mg/kg bid for 5-10 days. Disseminated infection due to Mycobacterium avium complex 500 mg bid. Leprosy 500 mg daily. Eradication of H. pylori associated w/ peptic ulcer 500 mg bid in combination w/ another antibacterial & either a proton pump inhibitor or histamine H2-receptor blocker for 7-14 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Impaired renal & hepatic function.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances; taste disturbances, stomatitis, glossitis, tooth discoloration. Transient elevations of liver enzyme values, cholestatic jaundice & hepatitis. Headache, rash. Anxiety, dizziness, insomnia, hallucination & confusion. Reversible hearing loss. Hypoglycemia & thrombocytopenia.
Drug Interactions
Rifabutin, fluoxetine.
